1. Whenever possible try to deal in person with the people you are dealing with.

3. Be aware of con artists. They are prevalent and will want your money before you receive items which unfortunately you may never receive.
4. Try and use “authentic” escrow accounts for your transactions. Be wary of fraudulent escrow accounts recommended by the vendor.
5. Be aware of internet scams. Some good sites are Get Safe Online & e-Victims.
6. If you have been scammed we recommend reporting it to the Internet Crime Complaint Centre & your local Police.
7. Check items before parting with your money if possible.
8. Don’t carry large amounts of money with you to make the transaction if dealing in person. Arrange a time to come back and pay when you are comfortable with the transaction.
9. If something appears too good to be true then it probably is. Don’t be tricked.
10. Be careful when buying tickets that they are not authenticated for the original purchaser only.
11. At all times try and avoid paying cash up front. THIS IS THE EASIEST WAY TO BECOME A VICTIM OF FRAUD.
12. Never provide your personal or banking information to others over the internet.
13. Be wary of vendors requesting you to use transfer services like Western Union and Moneygram as they have a reputation of being favoured by fraudsters and were not meant to be utilised for transactions between strangers.

16. Be wary of generic email addresses as contacts e.g hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc. Most legitimate business’s selling products will have a business email and even better, a website to substantiate their integrity.
